Waltz
A duet performed by one person who is present and another who is absent. One performer is live, his body moving in the space; the other performer, absent, is a recording only – a video-document of the past, projected into the space as if it were a present body. Through unison movement, poetic incantation, a lesson in crying, and eating cheese on crackers, Waltz is a failed attempt to live continuously in a single moment. The piece’s movement and text remain within the nostalgic rhythm of 3/4 time until one performer, since only one can, holds complete stillness.
This workshop of Waltz was curated by the Boston-based visual art stronghold, Mobius. Created in collaboration with Matthew Milo Sergi.
