Ara directs and choreographs for theatre and for her own performance works.

Projects include Act 3 (The Love Act) of Taylor Mac’s The Lily's Revenge at The American Repertory Theater (dir: Shira Milikowsky), Mankind (co-direct with Matthew Milo Sergi) at NYC Cloisters & UK tour, She Kills Monsters (dir: Shira Milikowsky) at The Boston Center for the Arts, The Magic Fish (dir: Allegra Libonati) at Boston's Outside The Box Festival, Toronto’s Shakespeare In Hospitals, Sol, Luna, and Stella with Aluna Theatre (Caminos Festival), This Will Be Our Last Transmission at Alumnae Theatre in Toronto, Rare Earth (dir: Randy Symank) and Glory Glory (dir: Matthew Milo Sergi) with Front Line Theatre, and Man of La Mancha (dir: Art Gruenberger) at UC Davis.  Annually, Ara devises and directs the second year show at Centennial College’s Performing Arts Centre. Her work has been curated in New York City, San Francisco and the Bay Area, Toronto, San Diego, and Boston at venues/presenters including Movement Research, ODC Theatre, CounterPULSE, Dance Mission Theatre, SOMArts, Series 8:08, Golden Gate Park Bandshell, Casa Del Prado Theater, and Mobius.  Ara was an Artist in Residence at The Headlands Center for the Arts (CA), Videofag (TO), and The Garage (SF) as well as the recipient of a Fort Mason In Performance Grant (Hewlett Foundation).
